URGENT call to action: Hungers strikes in Tehran; What you can do!

GVF — Following the commencement of indefinite hunger strikes by twelve political prisoners at Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, a campaign calling itself “Each Iranian, once voice” has been launched to support the inmates in their most recent endeavour to expose the gross violations of human rights by Iran’s tyrannical leaders.

In its initial statement, the campaign urged Green Movement supporters “from all corners of the globe” to record audio or video messages expressing their backing for the inmates as well as their families who are gravely concerned about their loved ones’ well-being.

“At this point in time, the leaders of the people’s [Green] Movement have been held captive for months while they [authorities] have not allowed people to hear their voice ever since. A time when people have to stand on their own feet to continue a life of struggle, and to avoid dependance on any force or authority. We’re at a time now when the most valued and honourable people are beaten and killed in the most brutal fashion, either on the streets in broad daylight or in prison hospitals.”

The campaign has called on the greens to show their solidarity with the twelve strikers in “any language” possible and to send their recordings to the following address: [email protected].

“Today, every Iranian is a voice. This time, we will live our struggle by raising our voice in support of the twelve political prisoners in captivity,” the campaign statement added.

So far, a number of prominent Iranian figures including writer Masoud Behnoud, Newsweek reporter Maziar Bahari, well-acclaimed satirist Ebrahim Nabavi and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi have sent out video messages throwing their backing behind the twelve prisoners on hunger strike.
