Interact with the Green Movement

In the last eight months the participants in the Green Movement have come up with many creative ideas, some of them collectively discussed prior to being taken into account. From shouting Allah-O-Akbar on rooftops to writing political slogans on money notes and many more different methods for neutralising the coup government's attempt to cripple the circulation of information. Such creativity, as was once exemplified in the 1979 Revolution, is one of the most important weapons in possession of a barehanded people against an oppressive government. GVF strongly encourages creating constructive a dialogue within the Green Movement whereby creative ideas are brought in and discussed. Our movement’s readiness to embrace new ideas and try new strategies in dealing with state apparatus will be instrumental in achieving our basic rights. The following letter was sent to us by a member of the Green Movement:

Warmest greetings to the brave and dedicated Green Movement editors:

Given the fact that many of our countrymen in Iran do not own a computer or have access to the Internet and for those who do, the regime in Iran creates all kinds of obstacles and disruptions, I have a suggestion that can potentially make the Green Movement’s materials available to a much broader segment of the Iranians living in Iran than is possible at the moment.

The regime there can slow or stop the Internet, radio and TV broadcasts from abroad or even control telephone conversations but it cannot slow or stop regular mail!! It cannot because the day to day operations of many of the government and private sector entities, import export businesses, universities, etc. rely on the delivery of mail. Everyday tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail are distributed by the regime’s own post offices across the country many of which come from abroad so why not use this same vehicle to get the Green Movements news, articles, statements, etc. to our countrymen inside Iran?

There are millions of Iranians living outside of Iran at the moment many of whom have access to the Internet. Even if a very small percentage (say one out of every one thousand) mail one piece of Green Movement material (which can be easily printed from your websites) to Iran every week and only about half of such mails reach their destinations we are still looking at reaching a couple of thousand Iranian families every week. The names and addresses in Iran can be obtained from the Iranian telephone books published in Iran. This should not be limited to peoples’ homes but should also include companies, government organizations, universities and whatever else entity whose address is listed in the phone book. To protect the recipients from possible harm by the regime in case an envelope is opened before delivery, a disclaimer can be inserted in the envelope saying that the addressee has been chosen at random from the telephone book as part of an informational campaign by the Green Movement or something to this effect.

If such an idea is widely advocated on the various websites of the Movement over and over again, this plan may take off and turn into something quite substantial over time.

Best regards and anxiously looking forward to a democratic and independent Iran

Yek Hamvatan
