Senior reformist Shakouri Rad arrested

GVF -- According to Iranian media reports, a member of the central council of the Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF), Ali Shakouri Rad was arrested Tuesday evening.

Tehran's Chief prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi confirmed the news on Wednesday saying that the veteran reformer was arrested based on security-related charges. Shakouri-rad is a former member of the Iranian Parliament and was disqualified from taking part in the 2004 parliamentary elections as a result of the Guardian Council's vetting process.

Many see Shakouri Rad's as a direct outcome of his recent letters in which he launched a series of criticisms towards the Judiciary's spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i. Eje'i had recently claimed that two of Iran's most important reformist parties the Islamic Iran Participation Front and the Mujahidin of the Islamic Revolution Mujahedin Organisation had been outlawed at the request of the Interior Ministry of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

However, the Islamic Iran Participation Front also announced last week that an Iranian court had indeed cancelled the ban against the party's activities.
