GVF -- The lawyer of recently executed prisoners Farzad Kamangar and Shirin Alam Houli has been arrested.
The Iranian opposition website Jaras has reported that lawyer Khalil Bahramian has been arrested by security agents and taken to an unknown location.
Following the unjust and sudden execution of five political activists—including four Iranian Kurds—on 9 May, Bahramian conducted various interviews with different foreign and Iranian media defending his clients’ innocence and exposing the various judicial irregularities leading to the hangings. Bahramian had stated clearly that all Iranian officials knew full well that teacher Farzad Kamangar had been innocent, but was finally executed in violation of many judicial norms and practices. Neither the families nor the lawyers of the executed prisoners were notified about the planned executions beforehand.
There is no further information regarding the reasons behind Bahramian’s arrest. He has been practicing law and defending political prisoners in Iran for more than forty years.
