Several teachers arrested on National Teachers' Day
GVF -- Security forces arrested a number of teachers today on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day.
Teachers were paying tribute to Dr Abolhasan Khanali at his grave this morning when security forces arrested a number of teachers present at the site. Khanali, a teacher in 1961 was shot dead on 1 May as he was protesting for teachers’ rights just like many other teachers who had gathered in front of the Iranian Parliament on that day.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency HRANA has until now confirmed the arrest of Mohammad Taghi Fallahi, Iraj Javadi, Forghani, Mohammadi, Raeiszadeh, Ms Barpar, Zeinalzadeh, Souri, Shivarani, Iman Zadeh, Montajabi. There is no further information regarding the names of the other individuals arrested today.
According to the news agency eight other teachers were also arrested last week in the lead up to Teachers’ Day (2 May) in Iran.
