Prisoner update: Iranian Kurdish activist on hunger strike

GVF -- Rahim Rash, an Iranian Kurd with a history of civil and political activism has been in prison for more than eleven days. He has been accused of cooperating with the country’s opposition parties.

The Kurdish activist was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence unit while at his home in the city of Mahabad. The agents also searched his house and confiscated a number of his personal possessions.

Reports suggest that Rahim has gone on hunger strike due to his illegal arrest which was carried out without an arrest warrant. He was initially taken to a prison in Mahabad and then transferred to Darya prison in the Orumiyeh after three days.

Rash’s physical condition is said to be critical following his hunger strike.
