GVF -- For the first time since the rigged 2009 presidential election in Iran, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps has acknowledged the presence of Green Movement supporters among the Guards forces.
On Saturday, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari Commander of the IRGC, admitted for the first time that “guards” in the IRGC had indeed supported the Green Movement following the fraudulent election and stated that winning over this group of guards was preferred to “removing” them altogether.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency which is closely linked to the IRGC, Jafari was responding to a question posed by a reporter who had asked about the measures the IRGC was willing to take in dealing with guards who had decided to side with the Green Movement following the 2009 post-election unrest. Jafari replied by saying, “many of the ambiguities have been resolved and they [the guards] have been convinced that [their] action was wrong, and this is better than dealing with them physically and removing them.”
