GVF -- On 1 July, a seminar entitled “The New Political Role of Internet and Mobile Phone: Example Iran” took place in Brussels with the presence of many Iranian and European writers, journalists and activists.
The seminar discussed the role of the changing role of modern media and communication with Iran as an examples. In addition, the different obstacles and difficulties for the free flow of information, solutions for improving the situation of media in Iran and the new role of ordinary citizens in disseminating news were also discussed.
Barbara Lochbihler, Member of European Union Parliament, as the head of the panel about Iran claimed there is widespread solidarity in the region with the issues in Iran.
In addition, Ben Roome, Nokia-Siemens representative, was under heavy fire from participants for role of the company in helping the Iranian government crack down on protesters after the rigged 2009 presidential election.
