14 students arrested at AUT

 
GVF – In the lead-up to pro-oppositions on 11 February the Iranian intelligence forces’ pressure on university students has also increased. Fourteen students from Amirkabir University of Technology have been arrested as part of a continued campaign of intimidation against students. 
According to GVF sources, within the past week, university security has summoned five students to the intelligence ministry. These five students were then sent to the Intelligence Ministry of Iran, where they were all arrested. Only one of the arrested students has since been able to contact his family and inform them of his imprisonment in Evin prison. There is no further information about the whereabouts of the other students.
In addition to the mentioned students, six more have also been summoned by the university security and until now there has been no news surrounding their return. What is rather surprising about the latest arrests is that most of the students were not politically active at university level and they had not even been summoned by the university’s disciplinary committee prior to the latest developments.
Moreover, ten more students have also been contacted by The Revolutionary Court of Tehran and have illegally been summoned to court while, tens of students studying at Amirkabir University also have been contacted and threatened with arrest should they attend partake in forthcoming protests.
It is worth noting that more than sixty professors from Amirkabir University signed a letter condemning the unjust pressure on the students while also demanding an end to the suppressions. However the letter was not published after the university’s president promised to take immediate action regarding this matter.
According to our reports, Amirkabir University is experiencing a security atmosphere in the days leading up to the 11 February when pro-opposition forces take part in demonstrations across Iran. The latest clampdowns are a sign that the government has become increasingly uneasy about the student role in the Green Movement.
