Oxford student Mohammad Reza Jalaeipour released after 66 days of solitary confinement

GVF -- Oxford PhD student Mohammad Reza Jalaeipour has been released from prison on bail, according to a posting on the weblog of his wife Fatemeh Shams.

Jalaeipour was arrested on Monday 14 June 2010 in one of the most shameful and bizarre arrests carried out by Iranian authorities to date, despite the fact that prior to his arrest, the Iranian judiciary had declared his case closed. The bail money set for his recent release is said to be more than $300,000.

The young sociology student had been arrested once more on 17 June 2009 after which he spent 110 days in prison and more than fifty days in solitary confinement.

Jalaeipour is the founder and spokesperson for the Third Wave Campaign that supported Mir Hossein Mousavi during the rigged presidential election of June 2009. He was arrested as he was leaving Iran to continue his studies in the UK along with his wife Fatemeh Shams, also an Oxford student.
