GVF -- Well-known Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Nourizad has been called to Evin prison after writing a critical letter to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to the Kaleme website, security agents contacted Nourizad today and told him to show up at the notorious prison as soon as possible. An hour before sunset on Wednesday and in his last posting on his weblog, Nourizad wrote, “I do not know where they will take me ... I do not expect to be treated well ... They might beat me. Badly. They might insult me and my family. Badly. And as my interrogator said, they might even accuse me of Moharebeh [warning against God] and execute me. Whatever happens, I will embrace it. For the future of my country’s people.”
Following the 12 June election, Nourizad became a constant critic of the Iranian leadership and wrote a number of open and candid letters to Ayatollah Khamenei and openly criticised the head of the judiciary Sadegh Larijani. He was subsequently jailed after his letters drew much attention. He was recently released after months of torture and solitary confinement and his interrogators had warned him not to write anything during his release.
In his latest public letter to the country’s leadership, Nourizad had predicted his imprisonment and called it his “last letter,” to Khamenei and reminded him of his wrongdoings throughout the years.
