Keyvan Samimi ends strike after 22 days
GVF -- The three remaining hunger strikers in solitary confinement of ward 350 of Evin prison have been moved to a public ward.
“An Informed source” told the Mizan News website that last night; political prisoners Ahmadi Amooei, Abdollah Momeni and Keyvan Samimi Behbahani were removed from solitary confinement in Evin prison and taken to a public ward.
The website also adds that Samimi who had observed his hunger strike for 22 days has also ended his strike.
Along with fourteen other prisoners, the three men began a hunger strike on 26 July in protest against the intolerable prison conditions as well as their transfer to solitary confinement. Following calls by Green Movement leaders to end their hunger strike, by day fourteen of the strike, all prisoners had put an end to the strike with the exception of journalist Keyvan Samimi who vowed to continue his hunger strike until every single one of the strikers had been removed from solitude.
Ali Malihi, student activist and member of Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat (student alumni organization), Bahman Ahmad Amouie, journalist, Hossein Nourinejad, journalist and member of the Participation Front (reformist party), Abdollah Momeni, student activist and spokesperson for Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat, Ali Parviz, student activist, Hamid Reza Mohammadi, political activist, Jafar Eghdami, civil society activist, Babak Bordbar, photo journalist, Zia Nabavi, starred student and member of the Council to Defend the Right to Education, Ebrahim (Nader) Babaie, civil society activist and an injured veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, Kouhyar Goodarzi, human rights activist and blogger, Majid Dorri, student activist, Majid Tavakoli, student activist, Keyvan Samimi, journalist, Gholamhossein Arashi, Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad and Peyman Karimi Azad arrested during an Ashura protest in Tehran were amongst the prisoners who began their hunger strike after being transferred to solitary confinement.
It should be added that student activist Majid Tavakoli has reportedly been transferred to Rajaei Shahr prison in the city of Karaj.
