GVF -- Student activist Majid Tavakoli, has been transferred from Evin to Rajai Shahr prison.
According to reports by the Kaleme wesbite, Majid Tavakoli, Member of the Islamic Association of Amir Kabir University of Technology was arrested on December 7th 2009, (national Students Day) following his speech in front of Amir Kabir University of Technology. Along with 16 other political prisoners at Evin, Tavakoli began a hunger strike on 26 July that lasted for 15 days in protest against appalling prison conditions and the highly insulting behaviour of prison guards.
It should be added that the 15th Branch of the Revolutionary Court has sentenced Tavakoli to eight and a half years in prison. Tavakoli has also been deprived of all political activities for 5 years and was barred from leaving the country's borders for another five years.
It should be noted that veteran journalist Keyvan Samimi, one of the seventeen prisoners on hunger strike, is still continuing with his strike despite his rapidly deteriorating health condition.
