Prisoner update: 3-year sentence for political activist upheld by court

GVF -- The three-year prison sentence of Amir Hossein Kazemi has been approved by an appeal court.

According to the Mizan news website, judge Movahedi from branch 54 of the appeal court approved a three-year jail term for Amir Hossein Kazemi who is a member of the youth branch of the Freedom Movement of Iran. Furthermore, the ruling was upheld only a week after Kazemi’s dossier was sent to the appeal court where Kazemi’s lawyer was not allowed to be present in court in order defend his client!

The initial court session, which resulted in Kazemi’s three-year sentence, lasted for ten minutes and he is still being kept in ward 290 of Evin prison and has not been allowed to make any contact with his family, despite the court’s decision.

Mizan cited “informed sources” as saying that there was no solid and credible evidence to support the accusations against Kazemi and that his sentence was written and approved by security elements instead of the judiciary.
