Prisoner update: Six years in prison & ten-year ban on journalism for Masoud Lavasani

GVF -- A court of appeal has approved a six-year prison sentence journalist Masoud Lavasani as well as a ten-year ban on any journalistic activity.

According to the website Green Prisoners, Lavasani's initial eight-year sentence was reduced to six years after appeal, and he will be banned from any journalist-related activity for the next ten years.

He was notified about the ruling on Thursday morning.

Also, opposition website Jaras has reported that Lavasani's condition is very worrying and dangerous. Despite the fact that a heavy bail amount of more than $500,000 has been paid by his family, security officials are still refusing to release him from prison even for a short and temporary leave.

The reformist journalist has been in prison since 26 September 2009.
