GVF -- An Iranian opposition website has reported that the head of Mir-Hossein Mousavi’s election campaign in the northern city of Babolsar has been arrested.
According to the Jaras website, Mr Tari was arrested in recent days after being summoned by the Intelligence Ministry’s office in Mazandaran province. He was then jailed in a prison in the city of Sari.
His arrest comes after two months of relentless pressure on another Mousavi campaigner Yaser Yousefzadeh to make false confessions against Mr Tari.
Yousefzadegan, a Sharif University of Technology graduate had been in prison from 11 February until 3 April and under severe conditions. In the first year of his marriage, Yousefzadegan spent the Iranian new year (Nowrouz) in solitary confinement.
Yet according to the report, Intelligence Ministry agents were unable to force Yousefzadegan into making any false confessions and in the end only accused him of “spreading lies” and set him free on a bail of $50,000 until his court date.
It should be added that Mr Tari is a recognised revolutionary figure in the city of Babolsar and respected by many. It is not yet clear why he was arrested.
Many other known and lesser known political activists, students and Green Movement supporters in the beautiful city of Babolsar are still being kept in the country’s prisons.
